Wirgler's Horse/Human Partnership
“When things don’t work out as you’d like them to, then back off and don’t let pride and ego get in the way. The horse doesn’t know how to do what you’re asking. The human labels it ‘He doesn’t WANT to!’. Do not put a time limit on it. Encourage what you’re asking…..to become his idea.'” – Ray Hunt
Don’t present things that are too hard to learn, don’t be arrogant. Allow the horse to learn in his own way. This takes discipline and maybe that will be the hardest thing for you. When you’re riding, try to do more by doing less and less. You have to be on the spot every moment because that’s where the horse is. Don’t worry, he’ll teach you if you let him. Fix it up and let it work. Turning loose means that when you reach for him, he softens. It should be like silk all the way. – Ray Hunt

Hank is a gem! He has years of trail and ranch experience, and has a solid natural horsemanship foundation..He has a super willing temperament, and does well in many situations form obstacle courses to ranch riding with cows. He has a quiet nature, and has been used for lessons for all levels of riders. He is good with small dogs, and children around him. He stands quietly at the trailer, and has excellent ground manners, baths, great for the farrier all of your basic handling discipline. He has a very solid basic foundation, stays in frame- moves his shoulders separate from his hinds, and hinds separate from his shoulders- side-passes over logs. He would easily pass a Patrol or search and rescue certification, can leave a group of riders behind- or ride out on his own. He is a rock star in the herd- gets along with mares and geldings alike. THE HEART OF A HORSE
MONTE BAKER
I talked to a friend just the other day
who’s got lots of opinions and plenty to say.
We discussed what we both like to see in a horse
his requirements and mine were different of course.
He likes a clean throatlatch and long skinny neck,
and prefers that their hocks are set close to the deck.
short backs and hard feet and clean slopin’ shoulder,
and a gaskin that looks like it swallered a boulder.
He likes a short face and a big ol’ soft eye,
and says these are the horses he ‘s likely to buy.
and when he’s completely his lengthy discourse,
on all of the attributes of the quality horse,
he asked my opinion, and where do I start?
I said that I…..just want horses with heart.
I said I want heart above all the other.
I don’t care if he’s Smart Little Lena’s full brother.
Or just how much money that his grandmother won,
or whether he is roan, palomino or dun.
But give me a horse with some grit and some try,
and some heart and some guts and that’s the one I’ll buy.
And I’ve found it’s the same with a woman or man….
the good ones won’t quit you when the shit hits the fan…..
Just had to share with you all…. No matter how big- or how small, we help them all!!! Meet Bert and Ernie…. 2 little mini’s rescued recently from Oregon. They need a few manners and a little discipline to be solid citizens. They are here for the basics leading, manners around food, patience and just how to behave around humans..They are the cutest littel guys!
We see a lot of people trying to WOW you with what they can make their horses do for entertainment, or to make themselves look good. That’s all good- and a wonderful motivator. But for me it’s the little things that horses do- the tries that WOW me.
