TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK
I have dreamt of this day for a long time, being back in the saddle again. With the expertise of Susan, along with me, we have made it happen!
Last year while shopping at Lee’s Feed, I saw this tall, slender lady with the coolest western hat on, and I immediately recognized Susan. We had never ever met before, but I had researched her and wanted to hire her to train my four year old Arabian Gelding, JoJo. At the time, Susan wasn’t able to accept a full time “student” because her schedule was full. However, she had this brilliant plan that I also loved! A weekly one hour training session. I would trailer JoJo to her ranch and she would share her knowledge with me, so that I was able come home and diligently do my homework with JoJo. Her weekly session gave me the confidence to train at home. The work that we did was challenging, but so rewarding. During my lessons at home, if a problem arose, I could text Susan and she would promptly brainstorm solutions and advise me how to work through them.
With Susan’s guidance, I became a more confident rider, trainer, and partner. JoJo and I are so grateful for our experience with Susan. Susan created a specific plan for us and I thank God for her commitment to me and JoJo.
I have struggled for many years trying to get back into riding. Susan helped my dreams come to fruition. I am completely over the moon to be riding again with my husband, daughter, and girlfriends (who ride my other horse, Sarah) and I know that JoJo has a great foundation. After a decade of not being out on the trails, I know that my horse and I are solid.
God’s plan unfolds
It was an August day around 1:00pm and over 100 degrees outside the first day I met Susan. My husband and I pulled up to the ranch, he was bringing me to meet her as an “Anniversary Present”. I was confused to say the least, we were at a horse ranch, and I had never had a horse. I thought we were going for a trail ride, and truthfully it was so hot outside I wasn’t thrilled about it. Well the story unfolded when Susan told me she had been talking with Mike for a couple of months, and they had arranged this meeting. He had been in contact with a different local horse person, but quickly found out that the person was a known criminal and not an honest person in the horse world. By chance, he had talked to a local boarding ranch and was given Susan’s name. The rancher told my husband that she was the “Horse Whisperer”, and would be the best person to teach me how to ride horses, and also find me the right horse to own. I was so surprised to say the least, but so excited. I started taking private lessons with Susan two times a week with some of her ranch horses. They were all so very calm, gentle and I felt so safe as a new rider. She eventually told me of a horse that had been with her for a couple of weeks. The horse was a “ranch horse” most of his life, but was sweet, and gentle, and was needing a good home. I started to take my lessons with Boomer and fell in love with him right away! It took a while for him to warm up to me, I think because he was probably not given so much attention in his past life as I had been giving him. He would rather that I didn’t fuss over him- brush his mane, tail, or just give him kisses, but I believe he just wasn’t used to it. Well, now, he LOVES it! He enjoys all of the primping and apples I bring him. My favorite thing he lets me do is, if he has some dried drainage around his eyes, he lets me meticulously care for it and clean it away (I usually take a lot of time to do this so he learns to trust me, the eyes are a very precarious area), then he lets me kiss his eyes when they are closed afterwards. They are the sweetest moments I share with him and I can’t imagine my life without him.
Susan has a love for these animals that I have never seen before. I feel that my horse is loved and looked after above and beyond what any boarding ranch could provide. She has texted me when she saw that he had a small injury and when I couldn’t be there she would update me on how he was doing. I believe God had a plan for me to meet Susan and bring me the perfect horse. She will always be a special part of our family. Lindsay Simpkins 2018

Bragging Rights!
This morning when I woke up I realized I have a bragging right I should post about! Yesterday Prince Charming and I made our maiden voyage in our brand new Charmac horse trailer all by ourselves! We didn’t get to this pivotal point in our horse/human relationship without the help of a few very important people in our lives!!! Our success is completely owed to Susan Kilinski-Wirgler, our trainer, our supporter, our encourager, our friend for whom Prince and I are grateful in abundance to have her in our lives! Our special thanks to Gale Rotenberg and Karen Benedetti-Jones who graciously allowed Prince Charming and I to tag along with them on trail rides so Prince and I could gain experience and confidence on the trail as partners and learn the etiquette necessary to be stewards of the trails! We are grateful to you, Gale and Karen! To Reno and Whiskey who cheered for us and wanted to be with us on the trail in celebration of this milestone adventure; our deepest thanks for your love, support and encouragement! And lastly, but certainly not the least, to my husband Bob, who recognized my complete devotion to Prince Charming; my absolute giddy craziness for my knuckleheaded horse, and realized this next step in our partnership for the future! Prince Charming and I are completely blessed!!! ❤️❤️❤️ Jana St. Amour Nov. 2018
