Dana and Rosie
This is our girl Rosie, and what she is today (in a few short months) thanks to Susan Wirgler and her profound work with horses.
Rosie was given to my daughter by our kind, elderly neighbor and while we were overwhelmed by this amazing gift bestowed upon us, we were also overwhelmed by the fact that this five year old lovely mare, was green with little to no riding time on her and not that much more handling either. My ten year old daughter (who has wished for a horse since she could form a thought) was also a fairly green rider so for obvious reasons, this combination was a concern.
So, when we asked a close family friend who is also a horse expert who to turn to she said, "Susan Wirgler".
First, Susan took the time to come out to see the horse and evaluate her from the pasture where she'd been since birth. Susan felt that the mare had potential and showed receptive signs, appeared healthy and was quite sweet but only time would tell. Rosie stayed at Susan's awesome facility for three seasons and we learned SO much while she was there! She patiently and diligently guided us to understand the horse from the ground up and the inside out as she is remarkable in her intuitive capacity to connect horses and humans towards the best outcome for both.
Total respect is what I have for Susan as a professional and trainer, and gratitude is what I feel as a mother and friend. The lessons that we learned are life long lessons and some go beyond the realm of horses and can be applied towards navigating successfully through life on a daily basis. Lessons like... trusting yourself, paying attention to how your moving through the world, and the consequences of your actions be them positive or negative. We learned that when working with a horse, the behaviors you possess and act on can make or break your experience (and that's true for many experiences... in fact, I'd say most).
As for the horse, her true nature began to shine through as Susan worked daily with her on all aspects of training. She went from being a bit withdrawn and sometimes indifferent to eager and curious. It was such a gift to witness. She had "a purpose" as Susan explained and was showing up in ways we weren't even aware that she could before going through our process with Susan.
As my daughter and horse continue their learning journey together, the foundations laid by their time with Susan are solid and serve as a fantastic platform for continued growth and bonding within their wondrous relationship.

Susan is one of the most inspiring people I've ever met. Not only does she do an amazing job training horses, but she makes amazing connections with those horses and everyone around her! My Quarter/Mustang mare became so much calmer and present for me. I know this is because of the training and in two months of working with Susan, I could ride Rosie! I learned a lot. There was many things I did not know, or even think of before my training with Susan.
