Dinah and Dave
Thought you’d like to know how Ira’s settling in. He’s doing great and we are very happy with him!!
After his long 4 hour trailer ride home he was quite willing to get back into the trailer the next day and show us that freeway travel was no big deal.
The past 2 days he’s gone on 2 hour trail rides. He’s has such a nice strong forward walk. So far nothing has upset him on my rural dirt/gravel roads. Cars, rattling trucks, cows, donkeys, charging dogs, deer ,peacocks, flapping laundry on the clothesline. Not a spook, not even a snort. He rides like he’s been here his whole life.
David rode him for an hour today and just loves his quiet manner and willingness to go forward. Ira seems very happy to be a trail horse. Very alert, yet quite sensible.
I will continue to do ground work and use the exercises that you showed me. My promise to Ira and myself is to become less of a passenger and more of a partner. You’ve done a great job working with him! I hope someday to work with him as well as you did. Ira has a lot of potential to go in many directions. Safely down the trail is all I ask of him today. I see many high country adventures and a little horse camping in his near future.
